Community Financial Resources (CFR) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering low-income and financially marginalized people through education and low cost banking and payment tools including a prepaid debit card. We design and implement financial service programs that promote money management skills, building assets, and responsible loans-- while reducing families’ reliance on payday lenders, check-cashers, loan sharks, debt peddlers, and high-cost money transmitters. 

Leveraging the collective consumer power of the communities we serve, CFR negotiates with financial service providers to develop cost-effective banking and payment tools.

CFR currently offers a low cost prepaid debit card distributed through community-based organizations, social service agencies, and unions. The card functions as a checking account, purchase and money transfer card, a money management tool and can be easily linked to an interest-bearing savings account.
